Adolescents and teen therapy require creativity, flexibility and humor to help them engage in sessions. I encourage kids to share “at their own pace” and “in their own way” so they know this is place without any pressures or judgment. Like other therapies, there isn’t just one approach or one method to address the challenges or stressors they are facing. While therapy sessions, most often, take place in an office setting, sometimes, this is a perfect situation for a Walk and Talk Therapy session, or to explore lyrics of their current favorite band/music, or have them show me some videos or drawings, or poetry, or stories that reflect how they are feeling. Using a variety of therapeutic interventions, teens can address issues of self-esteem, social and peer pressure, behavior, organization/attention, identity, self-worth, and expression.
